Moving toward the undefended self — What does this ask of us?
The Ottawa Pathwork community is offering a series of free lecture discussions focused on becoming our undefended selves — free from the burden of our masks and the need to constantly defend against anything that we deem fearful or that threatens our self-will or pride. Instead, we are invited to embrace our vulnerability — to see it not as weakness, but as strength, and as the key to satisfying our longing for unity and connection.
With this goal in mind, we’ll explore the following areas:
- The destructive nature of our defense mechanisms — our images, pseudosolutions, and Idealized Self-Image
- The steps to begin dismantling our defense system
- What being undefended looks like in our everyday lives
- How the courage to be vulnerable positively impacts all our relationships —including those with ourselves, our intimate partners, and God

In these times of turmoil in our world, Lecture #257 provides context, a broad perspective and a way forward. It speaks of the divine influx, also called the New Age, reaching our earth plane now that humanity has grown sufficiently to be ready for it. This influx is an unimaginably caring energy and consciousness, also called the Christ consciousness. It is affecting us on many levels, both inner and outer, in the areas of communication, the awareness of the higher consciousness of groups, and our capacity to be more open about hidden beliefs, feelings and events. It is resulting, more and more, in the exposure of previously secret corruption in public life and in the lives of individuals. It points out that when societal structures have declined to the point of being no longer transformable, their inevitable breakdown can make room for replacement by new and better structures that couldn’t occur otherwise.
The lecture tells us that, in situations of conflict with another person:
“You need to take the apparent risk of explaining yourself . . . You need to enter an ongoing dialogue, full of goodwill, increasing your willingness to shed your pride and to give up your stake in blaming. This is what communication entails on an emotional level. This is how fear and hate — hence war on all levels — will increasingly disappear. In other words, true communication will contribute to bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth.”
We are guided to participate in this New Influx, the “ever growing flow of energy and consciousness”, by deepening our commitment, effort and goodwill towards our own inner growth and developing the capacity to live in alignment with the Law of Brotherhood and Sisterhood. It requires deep inner exploration and the courage to expose appropriately, increasing inner peace and taking us collectively towards caring societies based more and more on true spiritual values.

What is the difference between Open Lecture and Lecture Study?
Open Lecture consists of a short teaching, a simple exercise and some discussion. It is open to whoever would like to attend, i.e. not a fixed group. There is no cost to attend. Duration is 1½ hours.
Lecture Study provides preparation materials, a deeper exercise, supportive mutual sharing of one’s learnings (optionally), and is a fixed group. There is a fee to attend. Duration is 2 hours.
At this time, both are via Zoom.

As we move into winter, perhaps your awareness is turning more inwardly and you would welcome a supportive group in which to mine the wisdom in the Pathwork teachings. Maybe you are aware that there is a lot more in each lecture than can be addressed in the Open Lecture format and like us, you would like to delve more deeply.
The Ottawa Pathwork community is offering a Lecture Study Series focused on becoming our undefended selves — free from the burden of our masks and the need to constantly defend against anything that we deem fearful or that threatens our self-will or pride. Instead, we are invited to embrace our vulnerability — to see it not as weakness, but as strength, and as the key to satisfying our longing for unity and connection.
The lectures in this Lecture Study Series will follow the same schedule and lectures as the Open Lecture Series – two weeks later in each case. Note that it isn’t necessary to attend the Open Lecture in order to be part of the Lecture Study class, though it is beneficial.
The theme of both these series is Moving Toward the Undefended Self — What does this ask of us?
Here is an overview of the topics:
- The fears behind our defenses; why we have them, and the harm they cause
- How to break the chains of fear
- The importance of artful communication and exposure – with self and with others
- Letting go of secrecy to live without fear and anxiety
- Removing the obstacles that separate us from God’s grace
